Moderator Application Process
Moderator Application Process
We are currently selecting using an invite/recommendation system. This means we will offer you a moderator position. No action is required from your part prior to the invite.
However, we welcome any application. If you let us know you're interested, it can help us make a better decision.
If you do make an application, make sure you fill it properly. We need the following information:
1. How long you've been active on UPSB, and how long you're planning to be active?
2. What can you contribute to the forum using moderating powers?
3. What do you think UPSB is in need of, and how do you intend to fulfill this need?
4. How many hours are you willing to put daily moderating?
5. Any other comments you think of.
Please title your PM properly (e.g. "Moderator Application: <your name>")
-> These are qualities we generally find desirable. It's still very much dependent in the actual role you want:
- Active, checks board daily
- Mature, able to make fair judgments
- Good knowledge of some areas of Pen Spinning (depending on what you're doing)
- Vocal, cooperative, able to work in team
- Leader in the community, respected, has a good reputation
- Clear understanding of the rules (we will check your history of past offences)
-> Currently, as of NOW, the needs are as follow:
- Need for people to monitor the main board during European and Asian peak hours. This does not mean you have to be from those areas, only that you are awake at those times.
- Need for someone with strong opinions and opinions that are divergent from our current staff, to expand our perspective.
- We want more variety in race, location, gender, etc. This is linked to #2 about expanding our viewpoint.
- Need people moderating the tricks section, and the media section.
- Need people moderating the shoutbox. This one is tricky because it requires a LOT of time just focusing on what's being said in the shoutbox. Ideally you should be able to just moderate during the whole day on this.
- Need for pen sections moderators. Duties include but are not limited to: cleaning up large threads like SOYP, monitoring trade feedbacks, answering pen-related questions, approving tutorials.
You can send your application to any moderators, I'll make sure it gets forwarded properly. Make sure you send to a moderator which is active. (To know if a moderator is active, look at his last login date)
You can expect a reply within a week or so of your application, where we explain the current situation. We will tell you if you can expect an offer or not, and what sorts of things you need to work on and justify our decision.
Our policy is to hire the right person for the right job. We won't hire someone for no reason, and we won't hire someone who's not qualified. Both conditions must be present.
Also don't forget that the final say belong to the public, who will approve your position.
If you have any question you can ask here.
